Hi, I’d like to use CI20 as a web server for my custom PHP application. It uses laravel 5 framework. I currently own a raspberry pi 2 and it’s running kind-of slow (althrough much faster than my previous via eipa 533mhz web server, about 2.5x as fast 😀 ). My questions are
1) would this web stack actually work at all on MIPS debian 7? Are those packages supported on MIPS?
2) what is the performance? would anybody care to try for example wordpress?:)
I’d be running RAID1 storage on 2 external WD RED 1TB drives.
Optimising the app is of course possible but I’d like to keep it as it is so to not sacrifice the beauty and maintainability of the code.
I simply want to know if general PHP performance would be faster, or on par, with raspberry pi 2.
Thanks for any input! 🙂April 14, 2015 at 5:08 pm #48404
Welcome to the CI20 forum.
I don’t see any reason that it shouldn’t work. nginx/php are available for mipsel in Debian 7 e.g. . You can search for other packages you might need. The bottom of that page lists architectures supported.
There is no simple answer of which is better.
It entirely depends on your application and how cpu/memory/cache/io intensive it is. At the end, actually running it is generally the way to find out.
That said, ci20/rpi2 are in similar league of boards as far as hardware goes.
For software, parts of CI20 software optimizations, such as kernel upgrade, Debian 8 upgrade are work-in-progress/in development stages. For your application, the current development sources should be work ,.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try! 🙂 I’ve already ordered the CI20, and will post some nice comparison results later on 🙂 Together with beagleboard i2, and ondroid C1.
Some things to look forward to! 🙂
