Errors when using the LWX instruction

    The LWX instruction is part of the DSP ASE and is used by newer versions of the GCC compiler to optimize normal C code. If you encounter errors while running code that uses this instruction, such as a Reserved Instruction exception (0xA) or DSP ASE Disabled exception (0x1A), check the MX bit (24) in the CP0 Status Register (register 12, select 0). The state of this bit following reset is undefined, so it must be set to 1 at boot time.
