PVRTC is the PowerVR Texture Compression format. Is it exposed on all PowerVR devices and is widely used by 3D graphics applications, such as games and navigation apps.

PVRTC is capable of compressing textures to 4 bits-per-pixel (8x smaller than a standard uncompressed image) and 2 bits-per-pixel (16x smaller than a standard uncompressed image). Unlike some other texture compression formats, PVRTC can store RGB or RGBA data at 4bits-per-pixel and 2 bits-per-pixel.
